Dogs on Quilts

/ Tuesday, 16 August 2011 /
I have dogs and I have quilts.  That means I'm a natural for the Pets On Quilts Show hosted by SewCalGal.
This is Susie.  She is the elder of our two golden retrievers, at nine years old.  She loves to sleep on her back like this - she spend most afternoons with her feet in her air, and often with her head hanging down off the sofa.  Whoever said it was a dog's life didn't know my dogs.  Susie is very sociable and she smiles and shows her teeth in greeting.  It is bit off-putting for people who don't know her, but she is truly smiling.  She often wakes me in the morning by jumping onto the bed on my chest and smiling into my face - I have become inured to waking to a full-on view of flashing choppers.
How is this comfortable?
And, for the sake of equity, I'm going to post this photo of Darla.  It's an older photo, and I meant to enter into SewCalGal's pet/quilt show last year, but I wasn't organized enough to do it in time.  Darla is seven.  Look at that face - you'd never know she is a murderess.  Several squirrels are wearing halos and playing harps right now, thanks to Darla.
Sweet dreams, Darla
Entries to the Pets on Quilts Show are accepted until the 19th.  Click on this button to take you there!

Edited to add these videos of Susie and Darla.  This first one is of Susie getting her ears tickled, which she dearly loves - it makes her smile big time!

I just uploaded this video of Darla, but it is actually a few years old.  We found a homeless, young cat walking down the middle of our busy street - he was about 6 months old, and, as it turned out, deaf as a post.  We loved this little guy, because he fit right in with us, and he loved, loved, loved our two dogs.  He got on especially well with Darla, who was about four at the time. Alas, I am terribly, debilitatingly allergic to cats, so we had to find him a new home.   They played like this nonstop for the three weeks he was in our house.ploaded it, but it is a few years old. Your pups are adorable! One of my doxies smiles too and some people think she is snarling when this happens. We had one other female doxie that smiled too. It seems to be a female thing.

My chocolate lab sleeps just like that (although not on my quilts!) all day long. She's just starting to get the smile down pat....... And my dogs can't usually catch the squirrels, but they love scaring the moles to death by playing catch with them - throwing them from one to another!! I keep finding perfectly whole moles lying dead in the yard.....

What a great post about your dogs. Your quilts are lovely. We have a dog, nicknamed Killer, who didn't make it into my post.

Beautiful babies. I love the photo of Darla all covered up and snuggly. Susie just look like she's happy and comfy. We have a murderess here too, but it's mostly because she's scared. She'll be screaming the whole time she's doing terrible things. Thanks.

Awww, what delightful critters you have :-) Does the golden one retrieve sticks? We had a neighborhood dog who always had a stick in her face, and she's flop over like that hoping to get either a game of stick fetch or a tummy rub :-)

Your dog sure knows how to enjoy your quilts!
I am not game to let my furry boys on the quilts.

I just love the pic of Darla all tucked in! What a shame you couldn't keep that handsome white kitty, the way he got along with the dogs. Bad allergies are MISERABLE, though!

Love that photo of your dog with her legs in the air having her nap. She looks like a real character. You are lucky to have such nice dogs to share your life!

Your Golden Retrievers are wonderful! My dog Brandy lived to be 16 years old. I love that smile! The cat and dog video was fantastic. Too bad you couldn't keep the kitty. Oh, and your quilts are very pretty too!

Such sweet hearts. I can forgive the squirrel issues. Mine would do the same if they had longer legs and could actually catch them!

I love that last video! Sometimes white cats with two different color eyes are deaf. Some sort of genetic thing.

Beautiful quilts! Thanks for posting, so nice to find your blog!
