Friends, in October, 2010, I will turn 50 years old. I have a big milestone to reach, and as of today I have not taken a single step. That milestone is the shedding of some significant personal poundage. I do not want to reach the age of 50 shlepping this extra avoirdupois!
I was thinking it would be awfully nice to have some company along the way, and do some quilting into the bargain. So what do you think, y'all? Are there any takers for slots in an Incredible Shrinking Quilters Bee? Join up if you, too, want to lose some weight and get fit in 2010 and make some quilt blocks to help us all mark achieving an important and healthy goal. Many hands make light work - plus, you can't eat if you're quilting!
If you're interested, leave a comment below and I'll contact you by email. I'll leave this open to readers of my blog right now, and if we need more participants, I'll post over at the Flickr bee group.

I am SO with you on this challenge. The year I turned 50 I lost 40 pounds and made the entire calendar year about me. It was wonderful! I put myself first, for the first time probably ever! That was 2 years ago, I have since gained all that weight back : (((
I've been trying to find a way to motivate myself and lose the weight again but so far nothing's done the trick. Maybe this is what I need.
Count me in!!
I could be talked into this! I'll be 30, this year, which is a milestone that is perplexing me. I was just 21, yesterday!
Sure you can count me in. I'm also turning 50 soon (Mar '11.) So true about not being to eat when you're sewing.
I'm interested. Can you tell me more?
I've been looking for a bee and this one kills two birds with one stone. i'm invisioning blocks made of skinny strips, or maybe a big round or wavy pattern-- you know, putting my curves into the quilt to get them off my body?
i'll be 30 in about 2 weeks and I think this will be a good project to focus on as I settle more fully into adulthood. I have some experience with Weight Watchers (i became a lifetime member when i was 24, but have gained it back since then) so i have lots of good tricks to share. This will be fun.
Great idea. Let's GO!
Having turned 50 this past March, I just might be up to the challenge. Hopefully I can get motivated (no success on that front, of late).
9 years from that milestone...but so far away from the weight I was for my favorite milestone...my wedding. Count me in!
yay! So glad you are all interested! I've posted on the Flickr page, so we will probably be able to fill our ranks from there. I'll be in touch with you all soon!
I'm definitely in if you'll have me! What a great idea!
It isn't a milestone year for me but I want to make it one. I turn 42 this weekend and the weight issue is definitely at the front of my mind.
I'm like Thelma, maybe this is what I need to help motivate me!
I am sooooo in. I lost weight in 2007 and looked great, but slowly gained much of it back. I turned 50 this last June and was very disappointed with myself for not keeping that weight off. I would love to share this challenge with others :)
I can't do another bee, but my friend always had good advice for me when I would say I didn't want to run or workout, "Just put on your shoes and don't think about it." It's true, I would sit around thinking about it and feeling bad. Now I just do it. The best part is within 30 minutes I'm home, it's out of the way and I feel good! What's 30 minutes of your day?
Me! Me! Me! I've started as of yesterday, though. I'm journaling what I eat in the SparkPeople app on my iPhone, just so I can keep better track. And since my iPhone is with me all the time, I might actually DO the tracking.
Just need to wedge time into my day for the gym. But if QUILTING (of all things) might help motivate me to do it, then heck yes, I'm in.
I'm messygoat on Flickr.
